Short Tail keywords

What is a short tail keyword

Short-tail keywords are usually broad search terms consisting of 1 - 3 words. Compared with long-tail keywords, short-tail keywords have the characteristics of high search volume and fierce competition. For example, "mobile phone", "sports shoes" and "travel" are typical short-tail keywords. These keywords cover a wide range and can summarize a large number of products, services or information.

Optimization Strategy for Short Tail Keywords

  • Precise Selection
When choosing short-tail keywords, make sure they match the core functions of the app and the target user group. Do not blindly use irrelevant short-tail keywords for high search volume, otherwise even if the app gets exposure, it cannot be converted into effective downloads and users.
  • Reasonable layout
Distribute short-tail keywords reasonably in the title, subtitle, description, keyword list, etc. of the application. The core short-tail keywords should be highlighted as much as possible in the title to attract users' attention; the description part can elaborate in detail how the application meets users' needs for this keyword.
  • Combine long-tail keywords
Short-tail keywords and long-tail keywords each have their own advantages, and combining them can improve the effectiveness of ASO. Short-tail keywords are responsible for attracting a large amount of traffic, while long-tail keywords can accurately target users with specific needs. The two complement each other to form a complete keyword system.

The relationship between short-tail keywords and ASO (App Store Optimization)

  • Increase exposure opportunities
In the app store, using short-tail keywords can increase the exposure probability of the app. Since the search volume of short-tail keywords is large, when users enter these popular words in the app store, if the title, description, etc. of the app contain relevant short-tail keywords, it may appear at the top of the search results, thus allowing more users to see the app. For example, a music player app, if the title contains the short-tail keyword "music", then when users search for "music", the app has a chance to be displayed.
  • Attracting target users
Although short-tail keywords are relatively broad, they can also attract users with general needs. For some popular category applications, using short-tail keywords can accurately locate the user groups interested in this category. For example, a photography application uses the short-tail keyword "photography" when optimizing, which can attract those who are interested in photography and want to find a photography application.
  • Competition and Challenges
Due to their high search volume, many applications will compete for the ranking of these popular keywords. In order to stand out in the competition, developers need to consider a variety of factors, such as the quality of the application, user ratings, update frequency, etc. At the same time, they also need to continuously optimize the use of keywords, combine long-tail keywords, and form a reasonable keyword strategy.

Short-tail keywords play an important role, and developers and marketers need to fully understand their characteristics and application methods, develop reasonable strategies, and improve the exposure and download volume of applications.
